Lately, we’ve been installing the new TM1 10.1 version on our testing machines. Installation usually goes smooth until we’ve upgraded one of our 9.5.2 machines.
Congnos Configuration didn’t let us run the TM1 administrator server, but responded with the error message below:
The error message

Starting the service “pmpsvc161220 15″ …

The service name is invalid.More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
The solution
Turns out that the installer, even though it has been vastly improved since the previous versions, isn’t totally bug free yet.
There are 2 ways to resolving this issue
- Remove the JAVA variable on the system ( backup the value on a textpad before ) and then reboot system.
This is usually done using the server component Windows’ administration panel but may differ per OS version - Start the IBM Cognos TM1 Admin Server as a local admin user account. Create a new user with local admin privileges if required.
Performing one of these steps should resolve the issue you’ve encountered.
